I love fall! Cooler weather, a bright show of vibrant colors in orange, gold, and amber, making a final artistic splash before the deadness of winter. I love to decorate my home with the autumn color hues and settle in for entertaining family and friends through a season of football to Thanksgiving Day. Exterior
It's easy to decorate for fall! Let’s start outside, on the front porch, side entry, mudroom and back door. What would a southern home be without antique white wicker on the front porch? Great for relaxing, sipping pumpkin cider and watching the world go by.
You can create a warm welcome with a seasonal doormat and an autumn color hued door wreath or swag. A historic southern home comes with many entry doors. So, I purchase artificial wreaths for outdoor/covered porch use. It is worth the investment as you can use them for numerous years. Add matching urn fillers and swags to continue your outdoor decor theme. The Matmates door mat in photo #2 below can be found here (#ad).
The next items to invest in are pumpkins! I purchased artificial pumpkins for my front porch as it is the original wood porch. I do not use real pumpkins or hay bales on the porch to protect the painted floor...Maintenance!! Again, I can use the artificial pumpkins for years to come. You can select solid-colored pumpkins in different sizes or go with a farmhouse whimsical look like the designer pumpkins on the tables shown below.
For DIYs, you can purchase resin pumpkins from a craft store and hand paint them with your own creative design. If painting the pumpkins yourself, add a little bling with crystals or sequins!!
Cooler temperatures also mean it's time to bring out the throws and candles. If you have a porch or an outdoor living area with furniture, add pillows and a chenille throw in autumn color hues on your chairs to match your other decorative accessories. I choose orange pillows as they match the color scheme of my wreath, urn fillers and pumpkins. As well as being the go-to color for autumn decorating, bright orange can be seen from a distance as your neighbors admire your outside décor.

I also decorate with gorgeous wreaths inside my home by switching out wall art or hanging the wreath over a mantle so I can enjoy it throughout the day! Be creative and use a wreath or garland as a centerpiece in your dining area. Add autumn inspired table runners, napkins, napkin rings and dinnerware in your kitchen and dining areas to create an inviting, warm, harvest home!
Dinner for two? If dining casual, be eclectic and mix your dinnerware, crystal and utensils. Use napkin rings with gold and silver to tie your finishes together. Dining Room
Harvest what you have. Make your own potpourri with hydrangeas from your flower beds and pine cones in your yard. Display in a decorative bowl as a dining table center piece, or on a coffee or side table.
I love the Vietri Rufolo collection! The glass plates and chargers are hand painted with gold leaf on the edges. The plates are so versitile I mix them with all of my dinnerware collections. Occasionally, I use the salad plate as a dessert plate. If you have a small table, the canape plate serves well as a bread and butter plate.
