As a child, my mother always had small gifts wrapped and ready to hand out to neighbors, friends and business associates shortly after Thanksgiving Day. It was a tradition in our home for everyone to pitch in with the wrapping and decorative bows to get ready for the giving season. Anyone that stopped by our home received a gift upon departure. No one left empty handed. My mother became known for her special gift of chocolate covered pecans! Sooooo delicious! After opening gifts on Christmas day, each family member knew the best gift of all was still waiting. Tucked in the back corner behind all of the other gifts under the Christmas tree. If you like to bake, make a tray of home cooked goodies and have it waiting near your back door for anyone who drops by during the holiday season. The kids will love this party favor!
Sweet side: Cereal, freeze-dried strawberries, yogurt-covered raisins and just a few green sprinkles, any shapes you can find at the craft store (trees, stars, flowers, etc.).
Savory side: Cereal, dried cranberries, roasted almonds, freeze-dried soy beans and freeze-dried peas.
Stove Top Potpourri
Create a stove top potpourri kit that will have your guest's homes smelling like the season! All you need for this stove top potpourri is: an orange, lemon, rosemary, pine sprigs, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, cranberries, nutmeg and water. Slice or quarter your orange and lemon and put all other ingredients into a small pot. Add 2 cups of water or until everything is covered. Set it on your stove and simmer. Add additional water as it cooks down to keep your home smelling like Christmas!
