Neutral Paint Color Hues For a Serene Home
1- Try a Tone on Tone Effect
Use Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 for walls and trim. This is a soft warm white with a touch of grey. White Dove will make a small room feel larger and brighter. Even though you are using White Dove on the wall and the trim, there will be a slight difference in color using a flat finish on the wall and a semi gloss finish on the trim. A neutral background will also provide a nice canvas for any color design you have in mind. Benjamin Moore Calming Neutral Paint selections for a serene home are shown below.
2- Neutral Color Tones are not Boring
Wainscoting trim in Benjamin Moore White Dove on a wall painted in Benjamin Moore Grey Owl makes a sophisticated statement and still leaves a neutral canvas that can be accessorized with more color. Coordinating grass cloth is also shown above. Magnolia decorative accessory shown above can be found here (#ad). Beautiful handblown glass vases can be found here (#ad). Visit our Foyer / Entry Gallery Page for more decorating ideas.
3- Add Soft Color Hues in Upholstery, and Rugs
Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace 2121-70 is a cooler white with a touch of grey. Add soft color hues in blue or green with your upholstery fabrics, rugs and window treatments. This will continue the calming color hues for a serene home. Similar Round Tufted Storage Cocktail Ottoman shown above can be found here (#ad). Visit our Living Room Gallery Page for more decorating ideas.
I love the Benjamin Moore Creamy White pallet featured above. I used the White Dove OC-17 on my trim and cabinets. The Van Deusen Blue is the perfect accent color for lower cabinets and a kitchen island when using white quarts countertops. Keep reading for "How To Tips" and where to order larger paint samples.
4- Add Accent Color With Cabinets
Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC154 shown above, is also a nice blue for a kitchen. If your kitchen is large with natural sunlight like the photo above, use Hale Navy on the lower wall cabinets and the kitchen island. Paint the upper wall cabinets White Dove OC-17. If you have a smaller kitchen without natural light, keep all wall cabinets light with White Dove and paint the kitchen island Hale Navy. Hale Navy has more black in it. So, it is a true navy and looks a little darker than Van Deusen Blue. However, both colors look great with stainless steel appliances, black stoves, gold door pulls and knobs. Visit our Kitchen and Nook Gallery Page for more decorating ideas.
5- Add Soft Color Hues with Throw Pillows
Use a neutral wall color one shade darker than your trim color and still have a light, sophisticated room. For example: Benjamin Moore Dove Wing OC-18 on the walls and Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 on the trim. Interchange decorative pillows and accessories in pastel shades for seasonal color. Similar settee can be found here (#ad). Shop our Blue and White Tablescapes to add a serene color to your dining experience.
6- Bring Soft Outdoor Color Hues Inside
The neutral office above is accented with glass accessories to incorporate the colors in the skyline view. Calming paint color hues for a serene home office adds to one's productivity. Luxurious home office desks can be found here (#ad). Add a splash of color with beautiful handblown glass vases which can be found here (#ad). 7- Use a Neutral Color Tile to Match Trim Paint

Blue Paint Color Hues For a Calm, Serene Home
Blue color hues are soothing and relaxing. Have you ever noticed medical facilities, insurance and investment companies, usually have blue color tones in their waiting areas? Blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, and confidence. These calming paint color hues for a serene home are featured below. Use the darker shades for accent colors on the kitchen island or above wainscoting in a dining room.
"How To Tip"
After selecting new paint colors, paint a section of the wall in the room you will be updating. Or, order a large 14" x 9" adhesive paint sample card here (ad) and leave it in the room that will be remodeled. Look at the sample color throughout the day as the natural light changes to make sure you are in love with your new color choice before painting the entire room. #HowToSelectaPaintColor
8- Don't Overlook The Gray and Silver Blues
When searching for the perfect shade of blue to create your serene home, consider blue hues with the word "gray" or "silver" in their name. These colors are toned down for an overall lighter color pallet. Benjamin Moore Gray Sky 2131-70 is a spa blue in a room with a lot of natural sun light. Benjamin Moore Silver Cloud 2129-70 is a true medium blue in a bedroom without very much natural light. Benjamin Moore Seattle Gray 2130-70 is another pleasing baby blue for a bedroom without many windows for sunlight.
9- Cool Colors in Artwork and Upholstery
I love to add black accents for a contrast which makes a statement in the interior design. Add crystal to your room for reflection and positive energy through a crystal wall sconce, crystal ceiling light, crystal chandelier, or crystal table lamp. Fine crystal chandeliers and lighting can be found here (#ad). Visit our Dining Room Gallery page for more decorating ideas.
10- Relaxing Bedroom Paint Color Combinations
What a nice boudoir to help one relax and go to sleep at the end of a stressful day. Try Benjamin Moore Mt. Rainer Gray 2129-60 for bedroom walls and Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 semi gloss for all trim. If you have a tray ceiling in your bedroom, paint the outside flat service of the tray in Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 in the same flat or eggshell finish you select for the walls. Paint the interior part of the tray ceiling in the same color as the walls are painted. If the room is small or a dark wall color has been selected, paint the interior part of the tray ceiling 25% of the wall color. This application still gives you the designer look without making the room feel small. The paint store will be able to mix 25% of any color selected. Similar fabric bed shown above can be found here (#ad).
11- Use Mirrors To Enlarge Visual Space
Use large wall mirrors, floor mirrors and mirror backsplash tiles throughout your home. Remember, the reflection received from mirrors creates the illusion of a brighter, larger space. Similar wall mirror can be found here (#ad). Benjamin Moore Summer Shower 2135-60 and Harbor Haze 2136-60 are nice blue hues moving into the green family.
12- Incorporate Soft Color Hues With Artwork
After painting, continue your Calming Color Hues For A Serene Home search with art work on the walls. Above: Fine Art Canvas Flowering Indingo by Carol Robinson can be found here (#ad).
Green Paint Color Hues For a Calm, Serene Home
Recreate a day at the beach with neutrals, blue/green and gray/green tints. These colors are relaxing choices for bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen cabinet applications we spoke of earlier. Green is associated with refreshment, peace, rest and security. Green is also a healing color as it offers a balance between our body and mind. Green brings harmony into our life in a calm, serene home.
"How To Tip"
Always try a paint sample before painting an entire room. The color may vary depending on how much natural light you have in the area to be painted. I order 14" x 9" paint samples to view in the location to be painted. Large adhesive paint samples for trim and walls can be ordered here (#ad). #Beachcolorhues #CalmingPaintColors #CoolColors #WaterColorHues #SpaColorHues
13- Use A High Gloss Paint Finish Application
Kitchen cabinet color choice above: Benjamin Moore's Silver Crest 1583. If you choose to paint your kitchen island a darker shade or a totally different color than the kitchen cabinets, use a high gloss finish so it looks like a fine piece of furniture. Shop our Barware and Entertaining for elegant serving ideas.
14- Add Reflection For A Calming Room
In addition to Calming Paint Color Hues For a Serene Home, crystal adds reflection and positive energy to any decor. The crystal lamps shown above can be found here (ad). Visit our Living Room Gallery Page for more decorating ideas.
15- Choose The Paint Finish
I prefer an eggshell paint finish for the walls verses a flat finish. This gives a little more sheen and elegance to the room's overall appearance. Make sure the dry wall has a smooth finish because an eggshell or low luster finish will show all imperfections. Elegant Upholstered Beds, and Headboards can be found here (#ad). Visit our Bedding Gallery page for more bedroom decorating ideas.
16- Bathroom Cabinet Color
Cabinet color choice: Benjamin Moore's Pale Oak OC-20. I love the coordinating wood look porcelain floor tile! This bathroom gives us the color of the sand and water at the beach. Visit our Bathroom Gallery page for more decorating ideas.
Add glamorous crystal to your bathroom spa for reflection and positive energy. Fine crystal chandeliers and lighting can be found here (#ad). Simply elegant!
17- Create An In-Home Spa
After the paint selections have been made, continue creating the calm, serene home environment you are looking for. End your day with a relaxing spa atmosphere in your bedroom and bathroom. Shop scented products including potpourri, curated candles, scented oils, and decorative room sprays here (#ad).
Continue to create the peaceful spa atmosphere in your serene home and Indulge in a Resort long-staple Turkish Cotton Bath Towel set which can be found here (#ad) in a variety of colors. This collection also offers a bath sheet (larger towel) for more luxury!
18- Incorporate Soft Color Tones In Flooring
Don't forget your flooring. Incorporate the sun sparkling off of the water at the beach in a beautiful bathroom floor tile design.
I hope the Calming Paint Color Hues For a Serene Home inspires you to create your own tranquil living environment. I wish you the harmony, balance and serenity you deserve.
